In late 2016, members of The Boot Co. Brisbane were invited to complete a short online survey about what they would like to see, hear and do at the organisation’s monthly pub nights. This is a summary of the results.
The survey received a total of 90 responses, 72 of which came from members. Around half of the respondents had been members of The Boot Co. Brisbane for more than five years. Almost 80 per cent of respondents indicated that they most identified with leather, followed by BDSM (around 50 per cent) and uniforms (around one-third).

It was great to see that just over one-half of respondents had attended more than five of the last 17 pub nights, with around one-quarter having attended more than 15. Of the two-thirds of respondents who indicated their favourite pub nights, the most popular night is Jocktober, followed by Hell for Leather, Harness and Wrestle. (This pretty much accords with the attendance figures for these nights over the previous 18 months.) The least popular pub nights appear to be Howl, Attention and Ranger (notwithstanding the reasonably healthy attendance at these nights).

House music is the most popular genre of music requested – by just under one-half of respondents – and the only genre nominated by more people than those who didn’t know or care what was played. Other more popular genres included ‘dance’, techno, trance, retro, pop/top40 and handbag.
There appears to be clear support for having a DJ at at least half of all pub nights, with around 75 per cent of respondents suggesting this (including almost one-third who want a DJ at every pub night). Only between one-quarter and one-third would be happy to see us experiment with other delivery methods.

Live kink performances on stage are the most popular type of visual entertainment, with over one-half of respondents wanting to see this at at least half of all pub nights. Around 40 per cent of respondents want to see electronic visuals at all pub nights. Both of these are less popular than watching dungeon-based activities.
Respondents were evenly split on watching dungeon-based activities, with around one-half saying they want to see this up to three times per year, and one-half keen to watch at at least half of all pub nights.
The activities that most respondents would like to participate in are the competitions, raffles and other prize draws that take place each month. Just over half of respondents said they would like to see these at ever pub night, and another one-quarter said they would like to see these at at least half of all pub nights. Around 40 per cent of respondents indicated that they are keen to participate in live kink performances, impact play, sensory play or rope play at up to three pub nights per year, and around one-quarter of respondents are keen to participate in these activities at at least half of all pub nights.
